Braces technology has seen a lot of development in recent years. The main goals surrounding these advancements have been to create a more aesthetically pleasing appliance while improving efficiency and comfortability.
Braces work to correct and enhance the function, health, and appearance of your smile. They are proven to correct a range of issues including spacing, underbites, overbites, crowding, and more.
The experienced orthodontic team at Santucci Orthodontics, led by Dr. Santucci, is here to help you find the right option for braces and answer all your questions regarding treatment.
Types Of Braces At Santucci Orthodontics
Traditional Metal Braces
Traditional braces remain the most popular treatment choice because they are an efficient and tried and true method of straightening teeth.
Traditional braces typically use metal brackets attached to the front of the teeth, connected to an archwire using elastic bands. Your orthodontist would typically need to make adjustments every few weeks to tighten the archwire.
However, Dr. Santucci takes traditional braces a step further by using the Pitts21 system of unique self-ligating brackets to attach the archwire to the braces rather than elastic bands. These clips reduce the amount of pressure needed to adjust the teeth, making the treatment process more efficient. Additionally, regular adjustments with this process are easier to do since they require less frequent and shorter appointments.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces function in the same that traditional braces do. The most significant difference is that they use a ceramic material that blends in with your natural tooth color. These are popular among patients concerned with the aesthetic appearance of metal braces and who want a more discreet treatment option.
While ceramic braces are typically less noticeable, they do require meticulous oral hygiene to keep them that way. Because of the material, poor oral hygiene habits and specific foods, including coffee and soda, can stain the brackets. However, if you are able to properly care for your braces, clear braces are an excellent choice!
